  • Welcome to the RunnerDuck Blog

We use to publish a monthly newsletter but decided to step up and do a blog instead. Just like our newsletter we will update this "newsletter" about once a month.
Each month we bring you news from our little town of Coupeville, WA and happenings around the island we live on.
We hope you enjoy our blog and we'd encourage you to sign up for email notification since it doesn't update all that frequently.

Loose Ends

Well we’re into the new year and off to a good start. For us the weather has been mild and life here on the island is pretty laid back. We though we try and get caught up with some loose ends from last year.

First of all we attended our grandson’s marimba concert on December 1st. I just got the video together and posted on YouTube. Here’s grandson Camden focusing on his next note.

Here’s the link to the YouTube video,

As we had mentioned in and earlier blog we’ve been working hard on our landscaping and decks. We now have the decks done and most of the landscaping. Here are a couple pictures of the new decks.

This is the back yard as we were finishing up the siding around the fish pond.

This is the front porch.

There will be a planter around the porch when we are done and some sort of picket fence. Once we are done with putting down the sod we’re going to redo all the concrete as the almost sixty year old concrete we currently have is cracked and falling apart.

For Christmas we got a new weather station for our house. We get some pretty wild weather around here and thought it would be fun to keep an eye on it. One side benefit for all our readers is that the software allows us to post the Coupeville weather in near real time. This is what our new weather page looks like.

There are more screens than that on our RunnerDuck weather page as you scroll down. To see what our weather is doing right now go to, RunnerDuck Weather.

So that’s about it for 2012 so far. We hope you are having a good year and all your New Year’s wishes come true!

  1. Wow, you guys really have a nice back yard and no need to mow…I like the whole look of it.. well done…. I haven’t gone to listen to the marimba utube yet, but intend to. Can’t wait to see the front deck when finished… thanks for sharing… Love you guys, hugs, just me, Betty Hopkins in Va.

  2. ok, just watched the utube Marimbas… so cool… I always wanted to play those… think we called them zilaphones in my day??? Not sure of the spelling and they were metal…. anyhow this was great and again, thanks for sharing part of your lives with me/us… God Bless, Betty in Va.

  3. Thanks for the Weather Station. Our daughter and her family live in Port Orchard, WA. Nice to see what is going on.

  4. Kenny, thanks for the update. I would like to know the brand and model of your weather station as we are thinking about getting one. Especially where we live here in Alabama after all the tornados here last year. Email me please if you will. Thanks.

    • Hi Mike,

I tried to send you and email but it didn’t go through so I’ll reply here.

I previously had a La Crosse and it didn’t update as quickly as I’d like, the software wasn’t any good and the wind gage broke sooner than it should have. The good news is that it wasn’t very expensive.

My new one is a Davis Vantage Pro2 and while I’ve only had it up and running for a month or so I like it much better. It’s a lot higher quality than the La Crosse and updates at the inside monitor every couple of seconds or less.
They’re quite expensive but like they always say, you get what you pay for.

I hope this helps and you enjoy watching our weather page.

      Best regards,
